Haiti - Girlguiding UK's response
The recent earthquake in Haiti has left
communities devastated and millions injured and homeless. News from
the Association Nationale des Guides d’Haiti has been limited but
so far positive, with International Commissioner Leticia Cadet
confirming that she and the Guides she is in contact with are safe
and ‘trying to help as much as we can’.
Helping out
Girlguiding UK will offer money to the Guides
d’Haiti through our Guide Friendship Fund to help support guiding
following the earthquake. If you would like to help the relief
effort, please donate money to a disaster relief charity such as
The British Red
Cross or Save the Children. (Both
links will open in a new window).
The WAGGGS (this link opens in
a new window) World Thinking Day Fund’s 2010 Global Action Theme is
girls worldwide say, ‘together we can end extreme poverty and
hunger’ and Haiti is one of five countries being highlighted. The
World Thinking Day Fund supports the work of WAGGGS globally so it
is not exclusively dedicated to Haiti or disaster relief. However,
part of the funding raised this year will go to Haiti and specific
guiding projects there.
You can find details about Haiti and all the
countries being highlighted this year on
WAGGGS' website (this link will open in a new window), as well
as ideas on fundraising and how the Fund is used throughout the
world.
To donate to the World Thinking Day Fund,
